Deep Decay Restoration

Introduction:
Amalgam restoration to be placed into tooth #15. The tooth has deep distal decay at bone level or very close. Greater Curve Wide Band establishes an excellent seal. Note that the depth of the restoration will be between 7 to 8 mm deep when measured at the anticipated marginal ridge height.
Procedure
Pre-operative bitewing
Bitewing of tooth #15. Very deep distal decay at bone level or very close.

Initial clinical presentation
Photograph of #’s 15 & 16. Deep caries is not immediately apparent.

Alternative view

Initial access
Initial opening into carious lesion.

Caries removal complete
All caries removed. Large embrasure space clearly evident. Amalgam restorative will need to traverse the space and simultaneously establish a tight contact. Caries below the gingival level.

Matrix placement
Greater Curve Wide band placed. Note that the depth of the restoration is between 7- 8mm deep when measured at the anticipated marginal ridge height.

Matrix seal
Excellent seal provided by the Greater Curve matrix.
